My goal as a counselor is to help people feel supported in a variety of ways. My hope is that people I work with feel witnessed and interacted with in meaningful ways.
My training and education includes a master’s degree in counseling from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, and a bachelor’s degree in transpersonal psychology from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. I am a member of the Pregnancy & Postpartum Health Alliance of Texas. I live in Austin TX with my husband, our two teens, and a dog and two cats.
Prior to becoming a counselor, I spent two decades as a birth and postpartum doula and massage therapist. I have attended hundreds of births in hospitals, homes, and birthing centers. During my 15 years as a childbirth educator, I also led classes and workshops about labor and delivery, postpartum adjustment, and parenting, and co-founded Conscious Birthing Austin with Lanell Coultas.
In my therapeutic work, I support clients through the phases of preconception, pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood — including all the ups and downs, anxieties, complications, and changes that come with this territory.
I also work with people not currently in the middle of parenting. Some typical phases include midlife meaning making and healing and decision making.
Beyond giving attention to the immediate goal of reducing negative symptoms, my approach also includes accompanying clients in examining their life experiences, emotional attachments, patterns, roles, relationships, feelings — and understand how all of those factors influence them.
